Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah is the Group Chief Executive Officer of Port & Free Zone World (P&FZ World), which is the holding company of DP World, Economic Zone World and P&O Ferries, and he is directly responsible for the business performance of those companies.   

Mr Bin Thaniah is also Executive Vice Chairman of DP World and an Executive Director of the Board of Dubai World, the holding company of P&FZ World.  Dubai World has a portfolio of more than 80 diverse companies, including Nakheel Property, Istithmar World, Dubai Dry Docks World, Dubai Maritime City and Limitless. Mr Bin Thaniah acts as the Vice Chairman supporting the Dubai World Chairman in managing the entire portfolio.

Mr Bin Thaniah joined Dubai Ports in October 1981, and has extensive experience in global port operations. Up until 2001, Mr Bin Thaniah led Dubai Ports Authority (DPA), which operated Jebel Ali terminal, the largest container operator between Europe and the Far East, and Port Rashid, which together last year handled more than 10.7 million TEUs (twenty foot equivalent container units).

Mr Bin Thaniah is a regular participant and speaker at several annual conferences in Europe and Asia. He is a committed and long standing advocate of the benefits of improving port systems, and of efforts to create adequate capacity for the shipping lines that serve the Eastern and Western hemispheres.

In 2008, Mr Bin Thaniah received the ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ from the International Cargo Handling and Coordination Association (ICHCA) for his contribution to the field of maritime cargo operations.He also received theSeatrade ‘Global Performer 2008’ award on behalf of DP World, presented by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, in recognition of DP World’s contribution to the global shipping industry. He was awarded the Seatrade “Outstanding Achievement Award” in 2007 for outstanding service to the shipping and maritime industry over the last decade, and the “Personality of the Year” award by Lloyd’s List in 2006. Mr Bin Thaniah holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and has completed extensive training in the United Kingdom and Europe.
